Arsenal achieved their first win of the premier league season with a 3-1 victory over Fulham at Craven Cottage. The result comes just days after the Gunners champions league qualifier victory of Fenerbahce midweek.
Pre Match
Jack Wilshere started on the bench as Cazorla, Ramsey and Rosicky all started in Arsenal's midfield triangle. Wenger granted a rare start to Lukas Podolski, who started on the left with Giroud in the forward role.
Olivier Giroud scored early in the league again when he controlled Aaron Ramsey's shot in the 14th minute and poked the ball past Stockdale, who was filling in for the injured Stekelenburg. Arsenal doubled their lead minutes before half time when Stockdale palmed away Walcott's shot, only for Podolski to unleash his left foot and hammer in the rebound. The Gunners wrapped up a solid day's work when Podolski again found the back of the net after a Cazorla cutback in the 68th minute. Arsenal fell asleep a few minutes later to let in a consolation goal, scored by experienced loanee Darren Bent.
Man of the Match
Lukas Podolski earned the match ball after ruthlessly finishing two chances, and subsequently winning the game for the Gunners.
The result add more confidence to the Gunners outfit after losing their opening match to Aston Villa 1-3 last weekend. They take on Fenerbahce at the Emirates on Wednesday in the second leg of the champions league qualifier, Arsenal won 3-0 in the first leg. Next weekend the first North London derby of the season takes place, with Spurs making the trip short trip to Arsenal.
